A nationally prominent post production studio, Charlie Uniform Tango or CUT, engaged Murphy Cramer Design to create a work space in keeping with their creative office culture. Housed in a building of our design at the apex of the Dallas Arts District the studio stands in contrast to the sleek, modern exterior shell. The concrete floor slabs were left exposed, albeit with a light polishing and decorative stenciling. The raw, unfinished concrete pan structure of the floor above becomes the ceiling in the majority of spaces, leaving electrical conduit and mechanical ductwork exposed like one would find in a more industrial facility.

This aesthetic was chosen for its more casual, creative feel as well as out of functional necessity. For, at the heart of the work space are two large volumes, clad in reconstituted zebrawood veneer, which fill the space between the floor slabs. These volumes contain the audio mixing rooms. Each essentially being an isolated volume within a volume and require as much vertical space as possible for them to optimally function.

Designed to provide an engaging space for those working in the studio as well as their clients, the studio is as self-contained as possible. Several informal seating areas covered in bright fabrics surround the mixing rooms as we a large multifunction space containing a pool table, foosball table and a series of large moveable dining tables. The lighting in the space is composed of stationary and moveable pendants that were custom designed. The kitchen, clad in white solid surfacing and white glazed ceramic tile houses cabinets made from environmentally friendly sunflower seed board, is directly adjacent to this space adding to the casual feel. The remainder of the studio contains offices and the video editing rooms each with custom workstations and casual seating in playful fabrics.
